Are there any side effects to meditation?

Updated: Oct 23, 2024

Meditation can be a safe and beneficial practice when done with the right precautions and guidance. However, it's important to be mindful of potential risks, especially for those who are inexperienced or dealing with certain conditions.

Physical limitations such as injuries or the inability to maintain certain positions for extended periods can lead to discomfort or pain during meditation.

It's crucial to approach meditation gradually and with caution, never pushing yourself beyond your limits.

Remember, meditation is not a competition and you have nothing to prove.

Inexperienced meditators, who may be experiencing severe depression may find that certain types of meditation exacerbate their symptoms. This typically occurs when individuals attempt practices that they are not prepared for or when they are not in a supportive environment. It's always good to talk to a therapist and a qualified meditation instructor to decide which type of meditation would help and not cause harm.

Some folks might turn to meditation as a way to escape reality spending hours in solitude on a daily basis, multiple times a day; feeling disconnected from the world around them. Meditation should be used as a tool to empower you to live your best life and not disassociate from it!

At Nama, we prioritize your safety and well-being. In our app, we provide clear instructions and indicate the level of difficulty (beginner or experienced) for each meditation, so it's essential to read and understand these guidelines before beginning a practice.

Always rely on your own judgment before following any guidance. All holistic practices are complimentary to medical

treatments and are not their substitutes. If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and take a break. Or better yet talk to a qualified instructor.

Remember to approach meditation with a balanced mindset, understanding that it's a supportive practice rather than a fix-all solution. By being mindful of your own well-being and limitations, you can harness the benefits of meditation while minimizing potential risks. Always prioritize your health and seek guidance when needed.
